What is Smart Call Routing?

Smart call routing is an advanced communication technology that automatically directs incoming calls to the most appropriate agent, department, or location based on predefined rules and real-time data.

Instead of transferring callers multiple times, intelligent routing ensures customers are connected quickly to the person best equipped to handle their needs — improving efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Key Benefits of Intelligent Routing

With smart routing, calls can be distributed based on availability, skill level, caller location, time of day, or customer history. This minimizes wait times and eliminates unnecessary transfers.

Businesses benefit from improved first-call resolution rates, enhanced productivity, and measurable improvements in overall customer experience.

Decide what should happen when nobody answers

Call forwarding, the AI receptionist and voicemail serve different purposes. Forwarding attempts to connect the caller; the receptionist can collect caller details; voicemail records a message when the call reaches that step.

Configure and test your call flow

  1. Review the forwarding destination saved on your account.
  2. Choose the AI receptionist steps you want callers to hear.
  3. Open Voicemail Settings to enable or disable messages, set a greeting and choose a 30-second, one-minute or two-minute recording limit.
  4. Test an answered call and an unanswered call from another phone.

Voicemail settings apply to all numbers on the account. When voicemail is disabled, callers reaching that step hear an unavailable message and the call ends. Existing messages remain accessible. A forwarded destination’s own voicemail can answer the call, so test the complete caller experience.
